Ice at Noon

Copper River Highway
Cordova, Alaska

Driving down the highway to take the "noon" flight on Wednesday,
sun glinting off the river ice caught my eye....

Delayed flight, my plane stuck in Yakutat....
a perfect opportunity
to head back down the road for a closer look ~

The angle of the sun at "high noon" reflected beautifully
through the water sculpted ice ~

A perfect moment to take with me on my trip ~

Retail Evolution

Laura's Liquor Shoppe
Cordova, Alaska

I purchased Laura's on July 1, 1995. Laura Brown, the previous
owner decided to retire.... but her name stayed on ~

Laura's is housed in a 100 year old building.... many remodels
have been done over the years, the most extensive
by Laura in 1983 ~

The largest changes I'd made through 2008 was the addition of an
espresso bar and a flashy sign with a new simplified name....
 "Laura's"

Then came 2009 ~ the start of the latest remodel ~
First the interior....

Then the exterior....

By the spring of 2010 Laura's had a new look ~

And some exciting additions....

Yup, That's my Grandbaby ~!!

Night Vision

Mile 27 Copper River Highway
Cordova, Alaska

Wandering around in the dark of night is like
going on a treasure hunt....

Vistas that are all but invisible to the naked eye become clear
with time lapse photography ~

A bright moon reflects as well as the noon day sun....

Homeward bound after a night of fun ~

Knit One

Knit, one by one.... and a lovely blanket appears....
but really, this post is just another excuse
to show off my Grandson ~!

Max made his presence known just about
a year ago today....

Ofcourse, an excited Grandma started
knitting immediately....
a nice neutral green since gender was a mystery ~

Early sonograms showed a boy was on the way...
add some blue - Quick~!!

Black stripes payed homage to his Daddy's
favorite color....

Simple texture was added to give the as-yet
un-named child something interesting to look at....

Nearly as many weeks went into
the knitting of this blanket....
as the number of weeks Max was in the womb....
I had the extreme pleasure of
thinking/praying/talking about my
Grandbaby-to-come
while my love was made manifest in bits of wool ~

M/V Aurora

~ M/V Aurora, Alaska Marine Highway ~
Cordova to Whittier

The M/V Aurora served the Cordova to Whittier
Alaska Marine Highway route from 2005 - 2010

A ride on the Aurora Cordova to Whittier
is six hours....
unless it's routed through Valdez, then
it's a twelve hour journey....
unless it's a scheduled four hour layover
in Valdez, then....
well, the math (and the ride) goes on & on ~ !

The cloud formations over Prince William Sound are often amazing ~

Sunrise and Sunset paint beautiful lights on the clouds and water ~

The scenery is breathtaking ~

Sparkling clear days ~

And windy days with choppy seas ~

And the company of fellow Cordovans ~

Cordova is now served by the M/V Chenega ~ just a
three hour cruise
from Whittier!

Coyote

~ Orca Inlet ~
Cordova, Alaska

Two coyotes hang on the edge of the woods.

Those are some choppers!

Decides to come out of hiding....

and come to the shore of the inlet.

He found what he came looking for....

A moose hide... He works to pull it across the road
to his mate.
